Welcome to the Greenlee SchoolWelcome to the Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication as you begin your adventure at Iowa State University. Your journey has brought you to a great university and one of the first, largest and most comprehensive journalism and communication programs in Iowa and one of the longest continuously accredited programs in the nation. Learning is an adventure. As a Greenlee School student, you’ll have the opportunity to learn from award-winning teachers and scholars with real-world experience. Our faculty members include a Pulitzer prize winner, book authors and leading authorities on advertising, science communication and journalism. Our students can jump into this adventure immediately. Greenlee School students enter Iowa State as pre-majors, which helps them make important connections early with faculty and staff. While this journey may lead you to a major in advertising or journalism and mass communication, we also offer options and emphases within those majors that can help students specialize and give them the edge when it comes to finding jobs. In particular, journalism majors can specialize in public relations, electronic media (broadcasting), magazine or newspaper, visual communication (photo, Web, design) or science communication. Your journey will also take you far beyond the classroom. Our students gain valuable hands-on experiences through internships, participate in nationally recognized student organizations and work on award-winning student publications. Students can dive right in as freshmen or take their time and sample all the possibilities.
