Borrowing Items
Books BooksStudents must show a current ISU card to check out items from the Reading Room. Journalists and other members of the public are welcomed to use the Reading Room, and they may make special arrangements with the librarian to check out items.Undergraduates may check out books for two weeks. Books can be renewed, but they will be subject to recall for use by others at anytime during the renewal period. Graduate students may borrow books on extended loan, with items falling due on the last day of the current semester. Faculty and staff may borrow books on extended loan, with items falling due at the end of the current academic year (i.e., the last day of Spring Semester). Fines: A fine of 25 cents per day per item begins to accrue on the first day following the due date. If an item is returned within seven days of the due date, the accrued fine is forgiven. If an item is returned after the last day of the grace period, the entire fine is charged, as accrued from the due date. Routine fines accrue to a maximum of $5 per item. Unbound PeriodicalsStudents must show a current ISU card to check out items from the Reading Room. Journalists and other members of the public are welcomed to use the Reading Room and they may make special arrangements with the librarian to check out items.Unbound periodicals may be borrowed for a two-hour period during the day and overnight from 4 p.m. until 9 a.m. the following day. Fines: No grace period. Fines for overdue periodicals are 25 cents per hour until a fine of $5 per item has been reached. Bound PeriodicalsStudents must show a current ISU card to check out items from the Reading Room. Journalists and other members of the public are welcomed to use the Reading Room and they may make special arrangements with the librarian to check out items.Bound periodicals may be borrowed for a two-hour period during the day only for photocopying outside the Reading Room. Bound periodicals may not be checked out overnight. Reserve ItemsStudent patrons must show a current ISU card to check out reserve items from the Reading Room. Journalists and other members of the public are welcomed to use the Reading Room and they may make special arrangements with the librarian to check out items.Reserve items may be borrowed for a two-hour period during the day (for use in the Reading Room only or for photocopying outside the Reading Room) and overnight from 4 pm until 9 am the following day. Fines: No grace period. Fines are 25 cents per hour until a fine of $5 has been reached. (This does not mean 25 cents for each article. The fine is for all articles that have been checked out by the user on the same date, i.e., five late articles are 25 cents, one late article is 25 cents.) Reference BooksReference books may not be checked out.Audio Visual MaterialsAudio visual materials may only be checked out overnight. They are due by 9 a.m. the following day.Fines: A fine of 25 cents per day per item begins to accrue on the first day following the due date. There is no grace period. Routine fines accrue to a maximum of $5 per item. Unpaid Fines/Lost ItemsIf an overdue fine is not paid at the time an item is returned, the patron will be billed the amount of the fine plus a $2 billing fee.Patrons will be notified by email, telephone and/or letter that they have items overdue. If overdue items are not received within a reasonable time after the due date, the patron will be billed for the replacement cost of the item. If a book is less than 2 years old, a full replacement price will be charged. If the book is older, a replacement price of $10 will be charged. A handling fee of $5 will be added to the replacement cost. If a book is lost, the patron will be billed for the replacement cost.
