Greenlee students eligible to receive Scripps Howard Foundation Awards

Greenlee School students are eligible to receive prestigious internship awards from the Scripps Howard Foundation

The Foundation is furnishing two $3,000 grants with $1,000 scholarships directly to two students who secure an unpaid internship but who also need support to take advantage of the opportunity. The internship experience relates to any emphasis and should be full-time for 10-12 weeks.

Pick your dream internship, contact the outlet, and ask for permission to send in your resume and materials in return for a confirmation letter stating that the internship is yours, providing it is funded by the Scripps grant*.

The internship grants are aimed particularly at students who are unable to secure paid summer internships and who also are not participating in any other supplementary internship grant program. The School will monitor the internship, and the student will secure from his or her supervisor an evaluation of the work experience. The student also will describe that experience in an evaluation and provide publishable-quality photographs taken during the work period. The School will then provide the Foundation with a full evaluation within 30 days of the completion of the internship.

There's more good news for the lucky students. Upon return in the fall for a full year as an undergraduate, and upon completion of a successful internship, he or she will be eligible for an additional $1,000 scholarship.

If you are interested in pursing this opportunity, please deliver to Kim McDonough in the Student Services office, Hamilton 178A, the following before March 21:

  • Confirmation from a media outlet offering the internship. (Work with your adviser to help secure such an offer.)

  • A letter from you explaining why the internship is important to your career aspirations and confirming that you are not participating in any other internship grant program.

  • An updated resume.

Director Michael Bugeja will make the selection from the pool of candidates in consultation with the student's faculty adviser. He or the adviser may ask you to provide examples of professional work to date, including clips, videos, portfolios, work for student organizations and publications, etc. Decisions must be made before April 15 to meet the Foundation's deadline.

* The Scripps Howard Foundation Award is a competition. Only the competition winners can receive the grants.
