Dimitrova and Smith Win College AwardsBy Erin O'Gara Two Greenlee School faculty members, Assistant Professor Daniela Dimitrova and Professor Kim Smith, are to receive awards for excellence in research and teaching this month. ![]() Dimitrova was awarded the Early Achievement in Research Award and Smith received the Master Teacher honor, both from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The awards will be presented at the LAS Fall Convocation on Wednesday, Sept. 5, at 4 p.m. in the Martha-Ellen Tye Recital Hall. The Early Achievement in Research Award to be given to Dimitrova is designed for emerging professors who have demonstrated impressive research early in their careers. "I'm very happy that Dr. Abbott nominated me for this award," she said. Dimitrova began her academic career at the Greenlee School in 2003. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Florida and MA from the University of Oregon. She worked as a broadcast professional in Bulgaria. She has amassed 20 publications in peer-reviewed journals in Daniela Dimitrova awarded the Early Achievemnt in Research Award.addition to four book chapters in academic presses. She heads the Communication Technology Division for the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. Kim Smith is receiving the Master Teacher honor with other LAS professors for his teaching success in large lecture classes such as Mass Media and Society. Smith was nominated by Director Michael Bugeja who assembled data from teaching evaluations and enrollments as well as supporting evidence to showcase the high level of teaching over 18 years. "We were so pleased to learn that Kim won the Master Teacher honor, not only because we value his contributions in the classroom, but also because we knew how news of this honor would excite his current and former students." "The award is heavily based on student opinion, which is very important to me," said Smith, who joins Associate Professors Lulu Rodriguez and Barbara Mack as Master Teacher recipients in the Greenlee School. 2007-08-31 |
