Professors honored by Interfraternity Council

Four Greenlee School professors were honored April 5 by Iowa State’s Interfraternity Council and Panhellenic Council at the Great Hall of the Memorial Union.

David Bulla, Barbara Mack, Kim Smith and Erin Wilgenbusch were recognized as outstanding faculty members at the ceremony.

Katelyn Wazny, a junior majoring in journalism and mass communication, commended Assistant Professor David Bulla for "taking time to send me a congratulatory note after my first article was published in The Daily.” Wazny also noted the journalism professor serves as the adviser to the ISU Society of Professional Journalists and has pushed the chapter to perform outreach to benefit scholastic journalism in Iowa.

Erin DeKoster, a sophomore pre-major in journalism and mass communication, nominated Associate Professor Barbara Mack, saying the media law professor’s “teaching techniques are off-the-wall and innovative. Everything she teaches sticks in the brain, and a student could not forget even if he or she wanted to. Without her, students all over campus would still be saying ‘like’ and ‘um’ before every phrase.”

Whitney Custer, a junior pre-major in journalism and mass communication, praised Professor Kim Smith for being upbeat and compassionate. “He expected us, as students, to be at class, absorb the information, read the material and walk away from his class better prepared for tomorrow.”

Megan Clemens, a senior majoring in journalism and mass communication, called Lecturer Erin Wilgenbusch a “tremendous lecturer” who makes class interactive. “She is the type of teacher that I feel I can be completely honest with and could go to with personal and academic issues.”
