Students educate faculty on academic integrityStudents for Academic Integrity (SAI) sponsored an AcademicIntegrity Luncheon Feb. 16 in the Gold Room of the Memorial Union. SAI members include Greenlee students who are competing in the Public Relations Student Society of America's Bateman Case Study Competition. This year's competition asks teams to research, plan, conduct and evaluate a campaign to promote academic integrity on college campuses. SAI invited
all Iowa State department chairs to attend the Rebecca Jackson, associate professor at Parks Library, discussed a Web site she created to combat plagiarism. Nancy Grudens-Schuck, assistant professor in the Agriculture Education and Studies Department, has used Jackson's site and she spoke about its effectiveness. Grudens-Schuck also discussed results of a class survey, which addressed how students feel about the use of the Web site. "I think this luncheon will be particularly beneficial to ISU faculty because it is being put together by students," said Susan Yager, associate director for the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT). "It shows the faculty that students are concerned about academic dishonesty and plagiarism and that they are trying to do something to solve the problem." CELT is SAI's client and is assisting the team in this mission. For more information, please contact: Kelly Ferneding, SAI representative, kfern@iastate.edu or 712-249-6829.
