A communications executive from Comedy Central will visit the Iowa State campus for this year’s “PR Day.”

Tony Fox, executive vice president of corporate communications for the cable network, will present “From South Park to The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” Monday, Sept. 26 at 8 p.m. The presentation will be about his public relations experiences at Comedy Central.

The free event will be in the Sun Room of the Memorial Union. A question and answer session will follow Fox’s presentation.

Fox’s visit is sponsored by Iowa State’s chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) and the Committee on Lectures and Programs.

“PR Day” is an annual PRSSA event to celebrate the profession of public relations. Each year, the group brings in a top public relations professional to talk with students, faculty, staff and members of the Ames community.

Fox was chosen as this year’s speaker because of Comedy Central’s popularity with the college students, as well as the interesting public relations tasks his job involves, said Sarah Nedtwig, director of public relations for PRSSA.

The junior majoring in journalism and mass communication said the fact that some of Comedy Central’s stars say things that can cause problems with viewers makes for an interesting study of public relations.

Fox joined Comedy Central before its launch on April 1, 1991. His work in media relations and public relations for the company led to his promotion to senior vice president of corporate communications in November 1996. Fox was promoted to executive vice present of corporate communications in November 2000.

He is in charge of both internal and external strategic communication and currently oversees and implements consumer, trade and business press. Fox also develops pro-social platforms for the network, supervises the company newsletter and contributes to the company’s Web site.

Prior to joining Comedy Central, Fox held a number of public relations jobs at HBO and was head of sports publicity at CBS.
