Greenlee School marks 100 years at homecomingBy Al Southers The Greenlee School celebrated its centennial on Oct. 22 before Iowa State's homecoming football game against Oklahoma State. The event was at the Celebrity Café, downstairs at C.Y. Stephens Auditorium. To see photos of the event, please visit the homecoming centennial slide show. Wayne Davis, a former community journalist and retired ISU journalism instructor, received the Schwartz Award at the reception, the highest award given by the School to recognize outstanding achievement. Read more about Davis at The award is named after James W. Schwartz, who earned a bachelor's of science in agriculture journalism in 1941 and went on to chair the journalism department from 1965-1977. Greenlee School Emeritus Professor Tom Emmerson will officiate the centennial celebration. Emmerson, who retired in 2004 after a more than 40-year relationship with Iowa State's journalism program, will recognize the accomplishments of the School and its alumni, including the five who have won Pulitzer Prizes. There will be alumni speakers and the School's history will be highlighted.

portal. The School emphasizes “"accuracy and learning how to report clearly," Emmerson said. Greenlee Professor Eric Abbott, who is helping to organize the event said “"this is a party and there will be food for all and prize giveaways."
