Winters finalist in TV news championshipsDan Winters, a recent Greenlee School graduate, has made the final cut for the National Broadcast Championships in Television, sponsored by the Hearst Journalism Awards Program. This is one of the nation's top awards for student broadcasters. By placing in the top five, Winters will travel to San Francisco in June. While there he will be asked to produce on-the-spot assignments under the supervision and review of prominent broadcast judges. By placing in the finals, Winters will receive $1,500. If he wins the competition, he will receive $5,000. Second place would earn him $4,000 and third, $3000. A Hearst spokesperson said this year's judging was competitive. These other students will compete with Winters in the National Broadcast Championships in Television: Jeff Butera, University of Florida Winters, who reports for KCCI-TV in Des Moines, was the advisee of Steve Coon, associate professor and coordinator of electronic media studies in the Greenlee School. Winters graduated in December with a degree in journalism and mass communication.
