2nd student wins Dow Jones internship

A second journalism and mass communication major at the Greenlee School has won a Dow Jones Newspaper Fund internship, this time at the York (Pa.) Daily Record.

Jason Noble Jenny, a sophomore from Lawrence, Kan., took the minority internship for business reporting. He will prepare for his experience during an expense-paid trip to New York University in May for a week of training before heading to York.

Earlier this month Anna Holland, a journalism and mass communication senior from Clovis, N.M., was notified that she had received a summer internship at the New York Times, compliments of the Dow Jones Newspaper Fund.

Jenny said he was "ecstatic" upon hearing the news. "The woman was really matter-of-fact about my receiving the internship," he wrote in an email, "so as she was calmly explaining the free trip to New York and the details of my paid 10-week internship on the East Coast, I was struggling to contain myself."

"I think this internship will give me insight into the business that I've never seen, and, being a business news internship, force me to broaden my horizons in terms of writing style and story idea development," he added.

Jenny, who works at the award-winning Iowa State Daily and is enrolled in the magazine emphasis at the Greenlee School, says the experience in York will prepare him for future internships in both journalism and magazine journalism.

"The Greenlee School and the Daily were instrumental in my receiving this internship," he wrote. "Greenlee faculty like Spoon (Mark Witherspoon) and Christine Riccelli have also been wonderful in giving advice and making opportunities like this one available."
