During my internship with StudioNorth I worked as a Client Services intern. My duties included attending project meetings and compiling concise meeting notes, assisting in industry research and events as well as assisting with production of promotional material for clients. I also produced mock-ups, organized internal events and meetings, and helped with administrative work. I would attend offsite client meetings and photo/video shoots with the StudioNorth team as well, which really gave me a feel for how a creative agency works.
I was very happy with my internship and those I worked with. Everyone at StudioNorth was there to give me a helping hand and make sure I got the best experience I could have. It opened up so many opportunities and I learned so much from this internship process that I could not have by just sitting in the classroom. Overall it was an extremely positive experience.
My most memorable experience while at StudioNorth was having the chance to follow one of their clients called CareFusion, a medical supply company in Chicago, IL, throughout my entire internship. One of my first assignments while working for StudioNorth was to attend a photo shoot for one of CareFusion’s products, where I then continued to attend every event and meeting for that company. I was able to sit in on meetings where the client was present, brainstorm ideas for their product, and help execute a small video that was played at CareFusion’s annual sales meeting. It was awesome to be able to learn the process of how an Account Manager takes on numerous tasks for a specific client, and by following this company it taught me the most about what I could potentially be doing in the future.
One of the special contributions I made to StudioNorth was when I took on the role as Project Manager for a specific project with CareFusion. The project was to compose a short introductory video for one of CareFusion’s products that would be shown to its sales representatives at their annual sales meeting. For this I was assigned to get all of the props for the video, as well as scope out locations to shoot the short film. I then attended the video shoot and helped with set-up and tear down. I really enjoyed this project because it gave me the opportunity to actually work as a Project Manager and understand exactly what they do on a day-to-day basis.
Also throughout my internship, I was assigned the task of planning and executing one Client Services internal events. For the event I had to design a logo and flyers as well work with the rest of the Client Services team to decorate, order food, and help with set-up and take down. The event ran very smoothly and it gave me the experience of how to execute an agency event!
My advice for future interns is to stay busy and consistently look for new opportunities to get involved in within the company. Your internship is what you make of it, so if you show that you are willing to try new things, express opinion and get involved within different departments, they will take notice and it will give the chance for so many more opportunities. The whole internship process is a learning experience though, so don’t get frustrated if you have to jump into something you have never done before. Take it day-by-day, work hard, stay positive and you will gain so much from it!
