As an intern for GRX Holdings, I worked on various marketing and advertising projects for Medicap Pharmacy. I designed promotional materials including posters, newspaper ads and bag clippers for pharmaceutical bags. I was also responsible for multiple direct mailings. I was able to sit in on multiple marketing meetings with various companies including the American Lung Association, KDSM Fox 17. I also helped the director of marketing with coordinating, supplying and implementing customer appreciation events at stores.
The most memorable experience during my internship occurred when the majority of my colleagues went to a conference. My supervisor put me in charge of managing all of the marketing needs of the company. I did not realize how dependent I was on her until she was away. During this time, I was responsible for coordinating a customer appreciation cookout at one of our busier stores. That week helped me stand on my own and become much more confident in what I was doing.
I was asked to research customer rewards programs. I contacted rewards program vendors across the country and set up conference calls with them. I was able to help explore the option of implementing a loyalty program within independent pharmacies so that our stores would be able to compete with the large name pharmacy chains.
Don’t be afraid to give suggestions and ask questions. GRX Holdings was a wonderful place to intern because the employees are so open to new ideas. The director of marketing is very easy to get along with, and she is open to trying new things. Your supervisor has a lot to teach you if you’re willing to speak up and ask questions.
