Job & Internship

February 2009 Internship Spotlight

Heather Anne Volkman

Name: Heather Anne Volkman
Major: Advertising
Company: Philadelphia Eagles, Philadelphia, PA

Duties: As a Ticketing, Special Events, and Promotions Intern for the Philadelphia Eagles, I was able to work on many different projects throughout the summer. One of my main duties was to help prepare for the upcoming season by managing the Archtics Ticketing System. This is the universal system used for maintaining, updating, and printing all NFL season tickets. I also did a considerable amount of event planning by helping coordinate the 2008 Eagles Playground Build, Annual Eagles Charity Carnival, and the Kenny Chesney “Poets and Pirates” Tour held at Lincoln Financial Field.

Most Memorable Experience: My most memorable experience was the day I met some of my favorites Eagles players such as Donovan McNabb, Brian Dawkins, David Akers, Chris Clemons, etc. My task for the day was to bring items such as jerseys, mini-helmets, footballs, photos, etc. over to “the practice bubble” and have the players sign the merchandise to auction off at the Annual Eagles Charity Carnival. Having the chance to meet Donovan McNabb was a dream come true for me since he has been my favorite NFL player since he was drafted to the Eagles.

Special Contribution: One of the many special contributions I made to the Eagles organization was the amount of time and effort I put in to help coordinate the Kenny Chesney “Poets and Pirates” Tour. I remember working three consecutive days over 15 hours a day. Some of the other interns and I had to set-up and label an additional 8,000 folding chairs on the main floor! Needless to say, it was all worth it when I got to see how all my hard work had paid off

Advice to Future Interns: DREAM BIG! I’ve been asked the question, “How did you get an internship with the Philadelphia Eagles?” over and over again and the answer is simple, “I applied.” Don’t be afraid to apply for an internship you may fear is out of reach. If there is a position available someone’s got to fill it. Why not you?
