Job & Internship

December 2008 Internship Spotlight

Brittany Wyeno

Name: Brittany Wyeno
Major: Advertising, Apparel Merchandising, Design, and Production
Company: SeenON.com, San Francisco, California

Duties: Each day at SeenON! brought new responsibilities and challenges; throughout the summer I was able to work on editorial, merchandising, marketing, and public relations projects. Some of my responsibilities included creating the “Celebrity Look of the Day,” writing celebrity and fashion related blogs for the SeenON! Blog, building links from celebrity and television fansites and blogs back onto SeenON!, and organizing Press Kits. I also had the privilege of helping to select and merchandise products on the SeenON! Boutique. Lastly, I was able to blog for ProjectRunway.com, which is also owned by SeenON!.

Most Memorable Experience: While I was able to work on many different projects, my favorite was acting as the Project Runway garment model and blogging about the designs each week. Throughout the summer, we would receive the garments from the show at our office. I would try on the garments and examine the designs and then share my opinions, thoughts, and detailed pictures with our readers on the ProjectRunway.com Blog. It was an amazing opportunity to be able to see all the designs in person while they were airing on national television and act as the authoritative voice for our readers.

Special Contribution: Throughout the summer, I was able to develop an editorial style by writing on the SeenON! and ProjectRunway.com blogs. Readers knew me by my online persona—“Fashionista.” I loved being able to write shorts for the blogs, especially knowing the blogs were daily read by the audience.

Advice to Future Interns: For future interns, I would recommend becoming involved in an extracurricular that relates to your career aspirations. Having the additional experience will allow you to stand out from other candidates and demonstrate your passion for the industry. Additionally, make sure you build strong relationships with your professors and advisors—someone in their network may be the perfect connection to your dream job.
