November 2008 Internship Spotlight

Duties: My major job duties from day to day included keeping up on articles written about the Senator and the rest of the Iowa delegation, writing press releases typically dealing with grants secured by the Senator for Iowa, transcribing weekly press calls and helping the press team out with whatever they needed.

Most Memorable Experience: I had many memorable experiences this summer working for Senator Harkin in Washington D.C. I was given lots of opportunities to use my education in the work place as well as learn new things. I enjoyed the interaction with the Senator as well as being able to see many famous Senators, the President and seeing how the media follows all these leaders.

Special Contribution: A special contribution I made was to help with our small town columns. I was able to write columns about issues important to Iowa that appeared in local small town papers.

Advice to Future Interns: My advice to future interns is to dream big. You're internship doesn't have to be in Ames or Des Moines or even Iowa. Get out, see new things and get an all around experience!
