November Internship Spotlight
Duties: While working at Mayor Fahey’s Office in Omaha, Nebraska I was able to help in the coordination of media conferences, wrote press releases, media advisories, letters, proclamations and speeches. I was also able to help in the planning and execution of a major event of about 20,000 people (a free concert for the public hosted by the City of Omaha). As the internship went on, my responsibilities increased and I was able to do much more work on my own. One of these responsibilities included my involvement in a school supply drive organized by the Salvation Army and a local television station. I was in charge of coordinating supply drop offs, pick-ups, signs, etc. for the City of Omaha departments. Most Memorable Experience: Of all of the things that I was able to do during my internship, my favorites were the media conferences and radio interviews that I was able to attend with the Mayor. It was kind of unbelievable to hear him saying things that I had actually written over the air. Advice to Future Interns: If I could offer any advice to anyone looking for internships, it would be to start early and plan on having more than one! I’m on my third internship right now and have done very different things at all of them. I’ve found that I have become a little more confident in myself at each one and think that they have all been helpful in allowing me to improve in various areas of Public Relations. |
