The Internship Portfolio
-
What is an internship portfolio?
Portfolios are created using formats appropriate to the work completed during the internship. Most often the pieces of work are displayed in a binder or presentation book, on a videotape or DVD, on a CD, on a Web site, or a combination of formats. The internship portfolio should consist of professionally organized samples of work you completed during your internship. Each item should include a brief explanation, its purpose, your role in its creation and the results (when available).
You should keep all drafts of your work because it is always a good idea to include those in your portfolio to illustrate the process and your growth on the job. The internship portfolio is an important means of assessing your internship experience. It should provide evidence that you achieved the learning objectives of Jl MC 499.
-
How do I know what information should be included in my portfolio?
You should speak to your faculty adviser about the information that should be included in your portfolio. Some examples of items that students often include are newspaper clips, magazine clips, scripts, news packages, photos, advertising and marketing plans, news releases, special event proposals, newsletters, brochures, Web site content, flyers, posters, ad designs, etc.
-
Do I get to keep my internship portfolio?
Your internship portfolio is yours to keep following your exit interview. If you are willing to provide copies of some items from your portfolio for the Internship Office, we would be pleased to place them in your file.
-
Does the Internship Office have portfolio examples for viewing?
The Internship Office has several examples of internship portfolio materials. If you would like to see some examples, please stop by our office.
