How long will it take for my internship to be approved?

The amount of time it takes for internships to be approved can vary. It depends on the time of year, the company with which the internship is proposed, and the amount of time it takes for your adviser and proposed supervisor to submit the needed materials. We ask that you submit your proposal two weeks before your proposed start date.

How do I begin the internship process?

You should begin by printing the Jl MC 499, Professional Media Internship, packet. The packet contains all of the information you should need to know about the internship process. After you have read the packet, you will want to speak with your faculty adviser about the internship process. Your adviser is the best resource to determine if you are ready to begin your internship.

What are the prerequisites for Jl MC 499?

The prerequisites for Jl MC 499 are:

  1. You must pass the English Usage Test (EUT) or have been exempted by ACT or SAT scores;
  2. You must complete Jl MC 201 with a grade of C+ or better;
  3. Jl MC majors must complete Jl MC 202, 206, or 321 with a grade of C+ or better; ADVRT majors must complete ADVRT 301;

You must complete Jl MC 202, 206, 321 or Advrt 301 with a C+ or better before you can begin the internship proposal and approval process.

Can I do more than one internship for credit?

The Greenlee School encourages students to gain as much experience as possible throughout their college courses, however our accreditation standards allow students to do only one internship for credit. If you are interested in completing more than one internship experience, you may register for LAS 298, 398, or 498 Internship/Co-op. These courses are not worth academic credit, but they allow you to remain on full time student status. If you have questions about completing more than one internship, please contact Kim McDonough.

Can I do an internship outside of my major or emphasis area?

The Greenlee School does not encourage students to propose internships outside of their major or emphasis areas because they may not have the skills or knowledge they need to have a successful internship experience. You should speak to you faculty adviser if you are thinking about proposing an internship outside of your major or emphasis area.

Do I have to complete my internship in one semester?
