Internships & Jobs

About the Internship Program

Internships are an integral part of the education of our students. They allow students to refine and expand the knowledge and skills gained inside and out of the classroom.

While most journalism and mass communication programs recommend that students complete an internship, we've made it a requirement. This ensures that all of our students graduate with hands-on career experience that will make them marketable to employers.

Our graduates have gone on to very successful careers in local and national media outlets including CNN, MTV, The Wall Street Journal, The Des Moines Register, KCCI, Edelman and Meredith Corporation.

Students are responsible for securing their own internships, but faculty and staff members are available to assist students with:

  • Internship advising sessions
  • Internship searches
  • Resume and cover letter preparation
  • Portfolio preparation
  • Interview preparation
  • JL MC 499 requirements and paperwork

We also provide:

  • Internship and job posting
  • On-campus interview opportunities
  • Seminars on internship and career related topics

To see where some of our recent students have interned, look at our List of Past JL MC 499 Internships.
