First Amendment Day

First Amendment Day participants gather at Beardshear Hall.

First Amendment Day serves as a celebration and a reminder of the five freedoms granted to us in the Constitution. These freedoms form the cornerstone of our democracy. The 12th annual celebration will be held on April 17, 2014.

The annual spring festival is organized by passionate journalism students and faculty within the Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication, Leo Mores Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists and several other campus groups and community organizations.

First Amendment Day at Iowa State is made possible in large part because of generous donations from Lee Enterprises and the Liberty Tree Initiative, the First Amendment Center and the McCormick Foundation. Other major sponsors include the Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication, the ISU Committee on Lectures, the Leo Mores Student Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, the Iowa High School Press Association, Quill & Scroll, and the Iowa State Daily.
