Teaching and Research

Dr. Peterson's teaching and research interests are in the areas of science and communication and public relations. Her work has been published in Public Relations Review; the Journal of Environmental Education; the Journal of Applied Communications; Equid Novi; Media Ethics and the College Media Review.

A seasoned journalism educator, she taught high school journalism before coming to Iowa State. She has worked tirelessly to integrate science literacy throughout the journalism and mass communication curriculum, advocating that writing about science and technology for the lay audience is important not only in print news editorial, but also in the areas of public relations/public information, advertising, visual communication and electronic media studies.
