  • Articles have appeared in Journal of Communication, Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly, Information Technologies & International Development, Journal of Agricultural Education and Extension, Newspaper Research Journal, and Agriculture and Human Values. He also has authored research reports on international development issues for the World Bank and the U.S. Agency for International Development

Major Awards

  • 2008 Association for Communication Excellence (ACE) International Award of Excellence, presented June 11, 2008, at the annual ACE convention
  • 2008 Greenlee School Lou Thompson/Harry Heath advising award, presented Friday, April 11.
  • 2008 Liberal Arts and Sciences College International Faculty Award, presented April 1 2008, at the LAS annual international dinner. One Award is presented each year to a faculty member in the college who has achieved in international activities.
  • 2006 Certificate of Appreciation awarded to members of the Founding Management Team, Sustainable Rural Livelihoods Program, for two years of work in setting up Iowa State University's activities in Uganda
  • 2002 Service Award, Agriculture Communicators in Education, August, 2002, Savannah, Georgia. The Service Award is presented by the Ace Board of Directors to an ACE member who has made major contributions to the organization through volunteer effort and leadership.
  • 2000 Research Award of Excellence, Agricultural Communicators in Education, July, 2000, Washington D.C.
  • 1998 Wilton Park International Service Award, Iowa State University (the university's highest award for international service)

  • Worked as a reporter, technical editor and communication strategist, and in the field of communication campaign design and implementation.
